Prof. Dimitri Batani elected Member of the Georgian Academy of Natural Sciences

The European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) is proud to congratulate Prof. Dimitri Batani, Fellow of the Academy and distinguished plasma physicist, on his election as Member of the Department of Physical Sciences of the Georgian Academy of Natural Sciences.

This prestigious recognition honours Prof. Batani’s outstanding contributions and leadership in the field of Physical Sciences, as well as his long-standing commitment to advancing excellence in laser–plasma interactions, high-energy density physics, and inertial confinement fusion research.

His election further reinforces the international impact of EurASc Fellows who continue to promote scientific progress and cross-border collaboration in the spirit of the Academy’s mission.

Prof. Federico Rosei, elected Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS)

The European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) is proud to announce that Prof. Federico Rosei, Head of the Materials Science Division and Fellow of EurASc, has been elected Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) for the advancement of science in developing countries. His election becomes effective on 1 January 2026.

This prestigious recognition by TWAS — a global institution promoting scientific excellence and sustainable development through international collaboration — highlights Prof. Rosei’s outstanding contributions to materials science, his leadership in advancing innovation, and his long-standing commitment to supporting scientific growth worldwide.

In a congratulatory message, TWAS stated that Prof. Rosei’s election “is a clear recognition of his outstanding contribution to science and its promotion in the developing world.” The formal induction ceremony will take place during the next TWAS General Conference, with details to be announced in due course.

Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini receives the George Winter Award 2025 of the European Society for Biomaterials

The European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) is proud to congratulate Prof. Aldo R. Boccaccini, Fellow of the Academy and Head of the Institute of Biomaterials at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU), on receiving once again the prestigious George Winter Award 2025 from the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB).

The George Winter Award is one of the most highly regarded distinctions in the field of biomaterials. Established by the ESB, it honours outstanding contributions that advance knowledge in biomaterials science through basic, experimental, and clinical research. The 2025 award was presented at the ESB Annual Conference, held in Turin, Italy, from 7–11 September 2025.

Upon receiving the award, Prof. Boccaccini expressed his appreciation:

“I am deeply honored and grateful to the European Society for Biomaterials for the George Winter Award, which I accept on behalf of all current and former members of my research group, as well as the many collaborators from around the world who have worked with us over the years.”

This recognition highlights the excellence and global impact of Prof. Boccaccini’s work, as well as the important contributions of his research team and international collaborators to the biomaterials community.

President statement concerning EurASc elections

Dear Fellows of the European Academy of Sciences,

First and foremost, I would like to congratulate all of you for your strong participation and the overwhelming support shown in the recent elections for our governing bodies. I especially want to commend the strategy proposed by the President and Vice President, both of whom have been re-elected and have demonstrated excellent alignment and commitment.

We also want to acknowledge the enthusiasm of our Fellows who applied for positions in our presidium. This highlights the outstanding personalities within our community who selflessly offer their expertise to EURASC on a voluntary basis. My sincere thanks go to all of you. For those not elected this time, I look forward to your continued involvement in upcoming initiatives and to receiving your ideas on how we can further improve our society.

To those elected, I count on your active cooperation in making our society stronger. Your engagement is crucial to identify areas for improvement and growth. Remember, we are a European society open to the world, welcoming members from all continents—Asia, Africa, the Americas, and beyond. We must consider how deeply we can integrate and capture members from these regions. This is why the last presidium approved, and we will implement it the Asia Pacific EurASC hub/office.

Additionally, we must align ourselves with those who have contributed significantly to advancing science in Europe and beyond. We are fortunate to have outstanding personalities both within Europe and internationally, whose voices should be heard to help us achieve excellence.

I am pleased to share that a large majority—over 90%—has expressed their support and approval. We are deeply honoured by your trust.

Of course, we need to continue refining our bylaws and statutes. We should consider implementing mechanisms that allow for opposition votes, even in cases where only one candidate stands for election, to ensure transparency and inclusiveness.

As Henry Ford famously said, “Coming together is a beginning, staying together is progress, and working together is a success.” I often reiterate the African proverb: “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” Both summary our idea for our future!

Thank you all. I hope that the elected Fellows will be able to meet in person before Geneva and, if possible, in Lisbon. We will cover accommodation costs, and we look forward to holding our meeting at the Lisbon Academy. To this end, our officers and my secretary are working on it

Official Results of the 2025 EurASc Elections

The European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) is pleased to announce the official results of the 2025 Elections of the Governing Bodies, conducted from 19 September to 8 October 2025.

The election process was carried out in full compliance with the Statutes and Bylaws of the Academy. Voting was conducted electronically and participation was open exclusively to Active Members of EurASc.
