After a PhD thesis focused on the study of the magnetic and transport properties in magnetic oxides with colossal magnetoresistance, I carried out two postdoctoral stays, at IFW (Germany) and Thomson-CNRS (France), where I gained training in thin film and lithography techniques, including the growth, patterning and electrical characterization of magnetic tunnel junctions (work under the supervision of Nobel Prize winner Prof. Fert). In 2001, I joined CSIC, the largest research institution in Spain, where I was promoted to Research Professor in 2010.

I have made relevant scientific contributions (more than 230 articles in Scopus, around 11,000 citations, h-index of 52) in magnetism and magnetotransport of ferromagnetic oxides (colossal magnetoresistance, spin glass behavior, spin-orbit coupling, anomalous Hall effect), in spintronics (in magnetic tunnel junctions and in conversion of spin current into electric current), nanosuperconductivity (vortices, superconductivity reentrance, electric-field effect, nanoSQUIDs), nanodevices (magnetic biosensors, magnetic force microscopies), and new developments in nanolithography (Cryo-FIBID, irradiation of metal-organic films, ferromagnets by FEBID). 

I have participated in 65 research projects and contracts, in 35 of them as principal investigator. I was a co-founder of the company Graphene Nanotech (active in the period 2014-2019). I have been co-author of 7 patents. I have supervised 25 Masters Thesis and 18 Doctoral Theses (5 of them in progress). Several of my PhD students currently lead research groups or have permanent positions or are CEOs in companies or are postdocs in research. I have organized several large conferences (CMD31, CMD30, CMD28), workshops and summer schools. Creator of the “ConCienciaAndo” podcast, writer of the novel “2037. Neuronal paradise” and very active in science popularization.
