Annette Lykknes is a historian of chemistry and Professor of Chemistry Education at NTNU-University of Science and Technology in Trondheim. She serves as Chair of the Division of History of Chemistry within the European Chemical Society (EuChemS), the history of chemistry group of the Norwegian Chemical Society and the Norwegian Association for History of Science. 

Prof. Lykknes is an interdisciplinary researcher whose academic interests encompass both the history of science and science education. She also conducts research at the intersection of these two fields. Her work includes the history of 19th and 20th century chemistry and university history, the history of gender, women and couples in science, the nature of science in chemistry teaching, critical thinking in primary education, and teaching practices in Ethiopia. 

She is co- editor (with Brigitte Van Tiggelen) of the book series Analysis: Historical Cases in Chemistry (World Scientific), topic editor for history of chemistry at ChemTexts: The Textbook Journal of Chemistry, and has co-edited several collective volumes in the history of science. She will assume the role of Editor-in Chief of Ambix beginning in 2026.
