Anton Arnold is a Full Professor at the Institute of Analysis and Scientific Computing of TU Wien (Vienna University of Technology). He holds a Ph.D. from TU Wien, obtained his habilitation at TU Berlin, and held his first professor positions at Saarland University and the University of Münster, Germany. His research focusses on the analysis and numerical methods for partial differential equations, in particular degenerate parabolic and hyperbolic equations.

He has contributed to generalize the "entropy method" for the large-time behavior for linear and nonlinear parabolic euqations like Fokker-Planck and porous medium equations, and he investigated its connection to functional inequalities of (logarithmic) Sobolev type. His contributions to open & transparent boundary conditions for the numerical simulation of the Schrödinger equation from quantum mechanics and pseudo-differential wave equations from underwater acoustics are highly cited. His research has been supported by numerous research networks and grants from the EU, the German Research Foundation (DFG), and the Austrian Science Fund (FWF).

He has been keynote speaker at several conferences (e.g. ENUMATH 2007 in Graz) and organized numerous workshops and conferences (e.g. a series on "Classical and Quantum Mechanical Models of Many-Particle Systems" in Oberwolfach). He has been supervising 16 PhD students and mentoring 9 post-docs. In addition to his research he has held various administrative roles, such a Head of Institute and Local Coordinator of the Erasmus-Mundus master program "Interdisciplinary Mathematics".
