Prof. Dr. Antonio Camacho, born in 1965, is Head of Research at the Cavanilles Institute for Biodiversity and Evolutionary Biology, and Full Professor of Ecology at the University of Valencia (Spain). His primary research and teaching activities focus on aquatic ecology, with a particular emphasis on the functional and microbial ecology of lakes and wetlands, and their interactions with climate change. He has conducted research stays across five continents and led five multinational Antarctic expeditions.

Prof. Camacho is co-author of over 140 peer-reviewed scientific publications and book chapters, and has presented more than 240 papers at international scientific conferences. He is currently the President of the European Federation for Freshwater Sciences and has received several distinctions, including the 3M Award for Environmental Innovation and the SEM Award.

Within the European Academy of Sciences, Prof. Camacho has served the Earth and Environmental Sciences Division as Head of Division, from March 2014 to February 2017 as a 1st Mandate, followed by a 2nd Mandate from March 2017 to February 2020. As Officer  from March 2020 to February 2023 (extended to March 2024 due to the COVID-19 pandemic) on a 1st Mandate, and a 2nd Mandate from June 2025 to May 2028 (current term, in accordance with the EurASc Bylaws)
