Gang Bao, Chair Professor of Mathematics at Zhejiang University.  After his PhD degree at Rice University in 1991, he was a Research Associate at Rice University and the IMA, University of Minnesota (1991-1994), Assistant and Tenured Associate Professor at University of Florida (1994-1999), and Full Professor at Michigan State University (1999-2014). He was the Founding Director of the Michigan Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics at Michigan State University (2006-2014). He joined Zhejiang University in 2010,as the Chair (Dean) of Department of Mathematics (School of Mathematical Sciences) until 2020. A recipient of the Feng Kang Prize on Scientific Computing in 2003 and the MSU University Distinguished Faculty Award in 2007, a State Natural Science Award of China in 2020, elected SIAM Fellow in 2016, AMS Fellow and CSIAM Fellow in 2020,Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2023, Member of the European Academy of Sciences in 2025. He was an invited speaker of ICM 2022. 

Gang Bao’s research interests include inverse problems for partial differential equations; mathematics and computation of wave propagation, and deep learning methods for PDEs. He has published over 170 papers in leading research journals including J. Ameri. Math. Soc., Arch. Rational Mech. Anal., J. Math. Pures Appl., Math. Comp., and SIAM journals. He is the Editor in Chief of Inverse Problem and Imaging, and has served on the editorial boards of over 20 International research journals including SIAM J. Numer. Anal., SIAM J. Appl. Math, J. Differential Equations, and Inverse Problems over the last ten years.
