Prof. Kärin Nickelsen is Professor of History of Science at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich (LMU Munich), Germany. Her research focuses on the history of the life sciences, particularly plant physiology, photosynthesis research, and the interplay between biology and technology in the 20th century. She is widely recognised for her contributions to the understanding of scientific practice, visual representation, and the role of models and experimentation in the development of knowledge.

Prof. Nickelsen has authored numerous influential books and articles on the epistemology and history of modern science, and has led several interdisciplinary research projects. Her work is noted for bridging historical scholarship with philosophy of science, contributing significantly to the historiography of systems biology and molecular life sciences.

She is a member of several academic bodies and serves on editorial boards of leading journals in history and philosophy of science.

Prof. Kärin Nickelsen has served as Officer of the Social Sciences and Humanities Division since December 2024, for the mandate December 2024 – November 2027 (current and first term, in accordance with the EurASc Bylaws).
