Marta Sanz-Solé is Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of the University of Barcelona, member of the Institute of Catalan Studies, the Royal Academy of Sciences and Arts of Barcelona and the Academia Europaea.
She has been the leader of the research group on stochastic processes at the UB. Her work in the foundations of random modelling has contributed to significant advances in the theory of stochastic equations and analysis on the Wiener space. For this she was awarded with the Narcis Monturiol Medal of Scientific and Technological Excellence of the Government of Catalonia, the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society Medal, and was elected Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (USA). In 2024, she was distinguished with the Sant Jordi Cross by the Government of Catalonia, for outstanding services to the country in the civic and cultural sphere.
Among other international relevant positions, Sanz-Solé was President of the European Mathematical Society (2011-2014), member of the Abel Prize Committee (2016-2017) and chair of the ERC panel for Consolidator Grants (2019, 2021). She is currently vice-president of the institution I-CERCA, the Catalan government institution overseeing the public research centres of Catalonia in all disciplines.
