Prof. Mauro Ferrari is an internationally renowned scientist and academic leader, with a distinguished career spanning engineering, medicine, and translational science. He was appointed President of the European Research Council (ERC) in January 2020. Prior to this, he held tenured professorships and senior leadership roles at prestigious institutions including the University of California, Berkeley, The Ohio State University, University of Texas Medical School, MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Houston Methodist Hospital and Research Institute, the National Cancer Institute (USA), and the University of St. Thomas.
Prof. Ferrari holds advanced degrees in Mechanical Engineering (MS, PhD, UC Berkeley), and Mathematics (Dottore, University of Padova), with additional training in Medicine and Business at Ohio State, Harvard, and UPenn. He has authored more than 500 scientific publications, holds over 50 issued patents, and has written 7 books. His pioneering contributions to nanomedicine, biomedical engineering, and drug delivery systems have earned him numerous national and international awards and membership in several scientific academies in both Europe and the United States.
Prof. Mauro Ferrari served as Officer of the Division of Engineering across two consecutive mandates: March 2015 – March 2018; March 2018 – March 2021, extended until April 2024 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in accordance with the EurASc Bylaws.
