Pavol Šajgalík is senior research scientist at the Ceramic Department, Institute of Inorganic Chemistry, Slovak Academy of Sciences (since 1996). He served ten years as the President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences in Bratislava, Slovak Republic (2015-2025).

Primarily his research focuses on the research and development of oxide and non-oxide high performance ceramics. Main interest of his research is the relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties of these materials. 

He regularly organizes workshops on Engineering Ceramics. He is the president of the Slovak Silicate Society, the member elect of the World Academy of Ceramics and the Fellow of the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) and Fellow of the European Ceramic Society (ECerS). He obtained a great number of domestic and international recognitions and awards. In 2015 he was awarded the Slovak State decoration: Order of the Ľudovít Štúr of III. Class. In 2013 he was awarded the Stuijts Award of ECerS and Bridge Building Award of ACerS. He is a fellow of ECerS and ACerS. Between years 2015-2018 he served as the president of European Ceramic Society.
