Prof. Federico Rosei is Professor at the Centre Énergie, Matériaux et Télécommunications, Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS) in Varennes, Québec, Canada. He holds the Canada Research Chair in Nanostructured Materials and, since 2014, the UNESCO Chair in Materials and Technologies for Energy Conversion, Saving and Storage. He served as Director of INRS-EMT from 2011 to 2019. He obtained his MSc (1996) and PhD (2001) from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
His research focuses on the synthesis, properties, and controlled fabrication of nanostructured organic and inorganic materials, including biocompatible systems, with applications in energy and photonics. Prof. Rosei has authored over 340 publications, cited more than 13,600 times (H-index: 60), and delivered over 325 invited talks in 45 countries. His scientific achievements have been supported by national and international grants exceeding 16 million CAD, and he is co-inventor of three patents.
Prof. Rosei is Fellow of numerous prestigious academies and societies, including the Royal Society of Canada, European Academy of Sciences, Academia Europaea, African Academy of Sciences, Canadian Academy of Engineering, World Academy of Ceramics, AAAS, APS, SPIE, RSC (UK), IEEE, and others. He has received dozens of international distinctions, among them the John C. Polanyi Award (2016), the APS John Wheatley Award (2019), and the IEEE Montreal Gold Medal (2018).
🏅 2019 Blaise Pascal Medal in Materials Science
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to nanostructured materials and their applications in energy, photonics, and advanced technologies.
Prof. Federico Rosei has served as Head of the Materials Science Division since March 2020, across two mandates: March 2020 – March 2023, extended until April 2024 due to the COVID-19 pandemic; May 2025 – April 2028 (current and second consecutive term, in accordance with the EurASc Bylaws).
