Prof. Sylvie Méléard is Professor of Applied Mathematics at the École Polytechnique in Paris, France, and Chair of the Mathematical Modelling and Biodiversity research group. She is a leading expert in probability theory, stochastic processes, and their applications to mathematical biology and ecology, particularly in the modelling of evolutionary dynamics and population processes.

Her research combines deep theoretical development in interacting particle systems, measure-valued processes, and diffusion approximations, with innovative applications to structured biological systems. Prof. Méléard has co-authored influential monographs and numerous articles in top mathematical journals, bridging stochastic analysis with real-world biological complexity.

She is a member of the Academia Europaea, Institut Universitaire de France, and has served on multiple editorial boards and national scientific committees. Her contributions have advanced the mathematical foundations of evolutionary ecology and fostered interdisciplinary collaboration between mathematics and life sciences.

Prof. Sylvie Méléard has served as Officer of the Mathematics Division since March 2023, for the mandate March 2023 – March 2026 (current and first term, in accordance with the EurASc Bylaws).
