Prof. Anna Wienhard is Director at the Max Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences in Leipzig, Germany, and Honorary Professor at Heidelberg University. She is internationally known for her work in differential geometry, Lie groups, geometric structures, and representation theory, with a focus on the interface between geometry, topology, and dynamics.
Her research explores the structure and classification of higher Teichmüller spaces, Anosov representations, and symmetric spaces, making foundational contributions to the understanding of geometric representations of surface groups and their applications in mathematics and theoretical physics.
Prof. Wienhard has received numerous recognitions, including ERC funding, and has held leadership roles promoting diversity and interdisciplinary research. She is a member of Academia Europaea and has served on advisory boards of major mathematical institutions and editorial boards of leading journals.
Prof. Anna Wienhard has served as Officer of the Mathematics Division since March 2023, for the mandate March 2023 – March 2026 (current and first term, in accordance with the EurASc Bylaws).
