Prof. Barbara Wohlmuth is Full Professor of Numerical Mathematics at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), Germany, where she leads the Chair of Numerical Mathematics and is one of the most respected figures in the field of scientific computing and numerical analysis.

Her research focuses on the numerical solution of partial differential equations, multiscale and multiphysics problems, domain decomposition methods, and structure-preserving discretisations. She has made fundamental contributions to the development and analysis of discretisation techniques for complex systems in continuum mechanics and materials science.

Prof. Wohlmuth is a Member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Academia Europaea, and the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities. She has received several prestigious recognitions, including an ERC Advanced Grant, and has served on high-level scientific panels and advisory boards across Europe.

Within the European Academy of Sciences, Prof. Wohlmuth served as Officer of the Division of Computational and Information Sciences across two consecutive mandates:

  • First mandate: March 2017 – March 2020

  • Second mandate: March 2020 – March 2023 (extended until March 2024 due to the COVID-19 pandemic)
