EurASc Divisions By-Elections 2026

The European Academy of Sciences successfully concluded the EurASc Divisions By-Elections 2026, organised to fill vacant leadership and Scientific Committee positions within selected Divisions of the Academy.
The process was conducted in accordance with the EurASc Statutes and Bylaws, ensuring the participation of Active Members in the governance and scientific development of their respective Divisions.
Election Process
The by-elections followed the official electoral calendar previously communicated to the members:
Call for Candidatures
15 April – 30 April 2026
Validation of Candidacies
1 May – 5 May 2026
Voting Period
7 May – 20 May 2026
Announcement of Results
25 May 2026
Start of Mandates
1 June 2026
During the Call for Candidatures, Active Members were invited to submit their own candidature or nominate eligible members, subject to their acceptance. All candidacies received were reviewed and validated before the opening of the voting period.
Voting was conducted electronically and was restricted to Active Members of the corresponding Division.
Divisions and Positions Concerned
The 2026 By-Elections concerned the following Divisions and positions:
Earth and Environmental Sciences Division
- One Head of Division
- One Scientific Committee Member / Division Officer
Although two Division Officer positions were initially open, only one candidature was received and validated for this role.
Mathematics Division
- Four Scientific Committee Members / Division Officers
Materials Science Division
- One Scientific Committee Member / Division Officer

The elected members will serve a three-year mandate from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2029.

Mathematics Division
The following members were elected as Scientific Committee Members / Division Officers:
Prof. Anna Wienhard — re-elected
Prof. Helge Holden — re-elected
Prof. Sylvie Méléard — re-elected
Prof. Pavel Exner — re-elected
The elected Officers will serve a three-year mandate from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2029.
Materials Science Division
The following member was elected as Scientific Committee Member / Division Officer:
Prof. Paolo Samorì — re-elected
Prof. Samorì will serve a three-year mandate from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2029.
