In 2025, the European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) established the Diversity and Inclusion Working Group as part of its continued commitment to strengthening fairness, representation, and equal opportunity within the Academy.

The creation of this Working Group follows discussions held within the Academy’s governing bodies, where the importance of fostering greater inclusivity — across disciplines, geography, gender, and career stages — was highlighted as a strategic priority for EurASc’s long-term development.

The Working Group is composed of:

  • Prof. Micheline Misrahi-Abadou
  • Prof. Evamarie Hey-Hawkins (Coordinator)

Mandate and Objectives

The Diversity and Inclusion Working Group has been entrusted with:

  • Reviewing the current composition of the Academy across Divisions;
  • Identifying potential imbalances in representation;
  • Proposing recommendations to enhance diversity in nominations, elections, and governance roles;
  • Encouraging inclusive practices within Academy activities and scientific initiatives;
  • Supporting a culture of openness, respect, and equal opportunity in line with EurASc’s mission.

The Working Group operates within the governance framework defined by the EurASc Statutes and Bylaws and contributes to reinforcing the Academy’s credibility and excellence by ensuring that scientific merit is accompanied by broad and fair representation.

By promoting diversity and inclusive engagement, the Academy strengthens its capacity to reflect the richness of the European scientific community and to address global scientific challenges from multiple perspectives.
