UMI Prize for Doctoral Theses on “Mathematics and Medicine”

The European Academy of Sciences is pleased to draw attention to the “Mathematics and Medicine” Prize, established by the Italian Mathematical Union (UMI) to encourage and recognise outstanding interdisciplinary research at the interface between Mathematics and Medicine.
The prize is awarded for a doctoral thesis devoted to topics concerning the application of Mathematics to Medicine. It is funded by Prof. Vincenzo Capasso, former Professor of Probability and Mathematical Statistics at the Università degli Studi di Milano “La Statale” and Past-President of the European Academy of Sciences, together with his wife, Dr. Rossana Caselli, former high school teacher of Mathematics and Physics.
By supporting this initiative, the Capasso family contributes to strengthening the dialogue between mathematical sciences and medical research, an area of growing scientific and societal relevance.
The prize amounts to €2,000 gross and is awarded every two years. According to the prize regulations, it is open to mathematicians who have Italian citizenship or who have obtained their PhD in Italy, provided that the doctoral thesis meets the thematic requirements of the prize.
Further information and regulations are available on the UMI website:
