Dimitrios Aggelis

Biography

Prof. Dimitrios Aggelis is Full Professor at the Department of Mechanics of Materials and Constructions of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium. He is an internationally recognised expert in non-destructive testing (NDT) and ultrasonic techniques for structural health monitoring of materials and engineering systems. His research focuses on elastic wave propagation, acoustic emission, and ultrasound-based methods for assessing the integrity and durability of materials such as concrete, metals, and composites. He has coordinated and participated in numerous European and international research projects and has published extensively in top-tier journals in civil and mechanical engineering. Prof. Aggelis serves on editorial boards of several scientific journals and contributes actively to the dissemination and application of NDT methods in both academic and industrial contexts. Prof. Dimitrios Aggelis served as Officer of the Division of Engineering from March 2020 to March 2023 , extended until April 2024 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in accordance with the EurASc Bylaws.
