Giuseppe Carlo Calafiore is a Full Professor at DET - Politecnico di Torino, where he leads the Automatica research group and coordinates the Control Systems and Data Science (SDS) Laboratory. He holds a Ph.D. in Information and System Engineering and has held visiting positions at institutions such as UC Berkeley, Stanford University, and UCLA. His research focuses on convex and robust optimization, machine learning, control theory, and their applications in systems engineering, finance, and networked systems. Prof. Calafiore is the author of over 220 peer-reviewed scientific papers and of widely used textbooks in the fields of optimization and control. He is internationally recognized for his contributions to scenario-based optimization. Elected IEEE Fellow in 2018, Prof. Calafiore has also been included in Stanford University’s list of the top 2% most cited scientists worldwide. He has secured and managed national and international research projects, collaborating with both academic institutions and industry partners. His work bridges theory and real-world applications, from smart mobility to financial networks and epidemiological modeling. In addition to his research, Prof. Calafiore is a dedicated educator with nearly 30 years of teaching experience. He has mentored students and researchers, fostering a culture of academic excellence and innovation. He actively promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in both theoretical and applied domains. His work is marked by a strong emphasis on bridging foundational research with practical, real-world impact.
