Biography

Svitlana Mayboroda is Professor of Mathematics at ETH Zurich. Her work lies at the interface between partial differential equations, analysis, and geometric measure theory, and has enjoyed wide ranging applications in condensed matter physics, cold atoms systems, research and engineering of organic and nonorganic semiconductor materials and devices. Her work has been recognized by Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, NSF CAREER award, (inaugural) AWM-Sadosky Prize in Analysis, US Blavatnik National Award, and (inaugural) Stein Prize for New Perspectives in Analysis. She was an ICM speaker in 2018 and is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.  She is the founder and the Director of the Simons Collaboration on Localization of Waves.    🏅 Blaise Pascal Medal in Mathematics (2025) Awarded in recognition of Prof. Svitlana Mayboroda’s outstanding contributions to the theory of elliptic partial differential equations , particularly for her fundamental work on the regularity of harmonic measures in rough domains and for the development of the landscape theory for understanding Anderson localization. Her pioneering research has established deep connections between geometric, analytic and probabilistic properties of elliptic operators, leading to definitive results on harmonic measure regularity and to a transformative new framework for analysing localization phenomena in mathematical physics. The landscape theory has not only reshaped theoretical understanding but has also enabled impactful applications in areas such as semiconductor devices, LEDs and solar cells, making Prof. Mayboroda a most deserving recipient of the Blaise Pascal Medal in Mathematics.
