Research Institute
The Hong Kong Polytechnical University Hangzhou Technology and Innovation Research Institute is an industry-university-research platform jointly founded by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the People’s Government of Gongshu District,
Hangzhou, Zhejiang, in November 2023. The institute is dedicated to leveraging the synergistic strengths of Hangzhou and Hong Kong to promote the integration of industry, academia and research, while accelerating the translation and commercialization of scientific research achievements.
With a strategic focus on smart transportation, the institute has established the Intelligent Rail Transit Center (IRTC). Relying on the Hong Kong Branch of National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Technology Research Center, it has established several high-level research platforms, including the Zhejiang Provincial Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Operation and Maintenance of Rail Transit, and the Joint Innovation Lab for Digital Twin and Intelligent Operation and Maintenance in Rail Transit.
The IRTC concentrates on three core research areas: i) Advanced sensors for rail transit; ii) Noise and vibration reduction products based on new materials, new processes, and new structures; and iii) AI-powered technologies for intelligent operation and maintenance in rail transit. The center is committed to pioneering
cutting-edge research and development, as well as the commercialization of research achievements.
